1st call for MCST officials volunteers!

    Hello 2022 Hammerhead Families,

My name is Joe Pierce and I am the coordinator of officials for the Mt Carmel Swim Team. If you're new to the team this year, I'd like to welcome you and your swimmer(s)! If you're a returning member, then you already know that summer swim is heavily dependent on volunteers, and that includes our wonderful officials!

As a team, we are in desperate need of additional officials volunteers. Being an official is a bit more involved than some of the other jobs, but it is as equally or even more rewarding! I'd like to extend an invitation to our 2022 Hammerheads parents who are interested in becoming an official, to please e-mail me to let me know.

If you'd like to learn more about being an official for the team, please check out the Rocket City Swim League (RCSL) Officials Page. There you can find lots of useful information including a simple-to-follow guide to becoming a certified official for RCSL. Once certified, you will be able to serve as an official for our regular season meets as well as the end of summer City Meet.

To participate in RCSL, our team's officiating responsibilities include providing two (2) stroke and turn judges at each meet, both home and away. So it's best for us to have several certified officials in order to break up the workload.

If you have any questions after checking out the RCSL Officials Page, please reach out to me at [email protected] or 256-783-4563. And if you have decided to get certified, please let me know as well so I can make a note of who we will have serving in this role this season. A reminder - our first swim meet is June 1st and it is a home meet, so it's only about 1 month away!

We also have a deck training session planned at our pool on Thursday, May 19 during our normal team practice in the evening - this is a great time to get familiar with the rules by putting them into practice on the pool deck in a non-meet setting. The deck training is required to become a certified official (other deck training sessions may be offered at other pools on other dates), and it will be led by the RCSL Lead Official, Glen Yates.

Thank you for your time reading this e-mail and for your consideration toward possibly serving as an official. One thing you can count on as an official, you'll always have the best seat in the house at our swim meets! I look forward to hearing from you, and again please let me know if you have any questions.

    Go Hammerheads!

    Joe Pierce
